How long do you think that you have to establish a Biblical worldview into the hearts of your kids?
Most people would say at least until high school. But studies are showing that parents and church leaders actually have until the age of twelve to teach and cement a Biblical worldview into their kids if they want it to be an enduring faith into adulthood. In fact, research from AIG shows that 40% of young people that walk away from Christianity say that they had their first doubts about God, Christianity, and the Bible in Middle School and some as young as 10 years old, showing us that we need to start as early as possible with teaching our children the truth of Christianity---and WHY it is true.
What is a Biblical worldview for kids?
Basic tenets of a Biblical worldview include:
believing that there is a creator God
there is absolute moral truth given by God
Jesus is God the Savior
the Bible is true and is a reliable and relevant guide in all situations.
Why do most families fail to pass on a biblical worldview to kids?
Most Christian families and churches are really good at telling Bible stories, but neglect to teach kids the evidence of how we know that the Bible is more than just a nice story. Many kids can give the Christian answers to questions like “is God real?”, “who is Jesus?”, or “is the Bible true?” but when you ask them “why” they do not know. Consequently, when kids are bombarded with anti-biblical interpretations of science and history and arguments against God they lose confidence in their Christian faith and upbringing and they believe a lie against God. Unfortunately, research from Lifeway indicates this departure from the faith often describes at least 60% of our young people that are raised in a Christian context but who walk away from Christianity after graduating high school.
What's the Ideal Age to Teach a Biblical Worldview?
Kids–before the age of twelve–need to be taught the truth about God, evidence for how we know the Bible is true, and conversation skills for communicating and defending the truth to others. “Yes, God is Real” is a unique curriculum for elementary age kids that does just that. There is no other curriculum like it on the market.
A Biblical Worldview Resource for Parents and Kids
The main purpose of “Yes, God is Real” is to help kids in grades 2nd-5th to have confidence that Christianity is true by studying different types of evidence (logical, scientific, historical, etc.) that affirms that Christianity isn’t just an opinion, but is a belief based on facts. The evidence is presented in a way that is fun, memorable, and relatable for elementary age kids. Another goal of the material is for kids to begin to learn how to answer objections about Christianity that they will encounter in this increasingly anti-Christian world, so that they will not get swept away in the culture of confusion.
How Does it Teach a Biblical Worldview?
“Yes, God is Real!” contains 12 lessons, written in script format for the teacher, that will teach children the evidence for Christianity; it teaches them to know WHY Christianity is true. They will learn the answer to five key questions:
How can you know that truth exists?
Is God real?
Are miracles possible?
Is the New Testament trustworthy?
Is Jesus, God the Savior?
How Does it Teach a Biblical Worldview?
Hands-on activities are provided, as well as an accompanying student workbook with the key points, activity pages, quizzes, and key point flashcards. This curriculum is co-authored with Dr. Frank Turek, founder of the ministry CrossExamined. It is based off of the book for adults that he co-authored entitled “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist”.
Where can this biblical worldview course for kids be taught?
The curriculum is flexible so it is perfect for:
family devotion time
Sunday Schools
Christian schools
homeschoolers
even for grandparents to do with their grandkids when they come to visit.
My prayer is that God will use this curriculum to help kids KNOW the why behind the Christian faith they are being taught so that they will believe in Jesus—God the Savior, GROW in their confidence of the truths of Scripture and not waver, and DEFEND/SHARE the truth with those around them.
